The Knife Shines

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to announce that my short story 'The Knife' (first published in Westerly 57:2) has won The 2013 Patricia Hackett Prize. This prize is selected annually for the best creative work published in Westerly in any particular year. This year, I'm lucky enough to have been selected. Quite an honour, given the list of contributors for 2012.

'The Knife' has also been selected to appear in Award Winning Australian Writing 2013, to be published by Melbourne Books later in the year.  In this collection I'll appear alongside Margo Lanagan, Angela Meyer, and Bruce Dawe, and, as such, am again in good company.

Special thanks to Avantika Mehta, Val Shay, Cheyenne Richards, Dana De Greff, Zoe Dattner, Brigid Lowry and ZZ Packer, who supported me above and beyond the call of duty in getting this story to the next level. I'm immensely lucky to have such talented friends as mentors, friends, and fellow participants in the workshopping process.
